Speaking to the Sunday Herald, Katy commented:

“The key issues are how Labour has let down the people of Glasgow, both nationally, by failing to forsee the credit crunch and take preventive measures, and locally, by ignoring widespread protests on school closures. People are fed up with being taken for granted and the scandal of MP expenses has only fuelled their determination for change.”

“It is good to see Liberal Democrat MPs setting an example and showing that they have nothing to fear from open, independent scrutiny of their expenses.

“I hope that the Labour and Conservative leaderships will follow Nick Clegg’s lead in implementing these measures, and we can begin to restore public confidence in politicians.”

“Freedom of Information laws allow the press and public to know the travel expenses claimed by public offcials. This is something we welcome. But the attempt, backed by 3 Glasgow Labour MPs, John Robertson, David Marshall and Tom Harris, to stop the same rules applying to themselves shows an appalling approach of one rule for MPs and another for the rest of us. Thanks to the Lib Dems, this sneaky attempt to escape scrutiny has been blocked by the House of Lords.”
