One of the great things about being a candidate in the General Election is speaking to so many different people.
As I was out and about knocking on doors in Kelvindale this morning I met Ian. He told me that he had joined the Navy and was about to be shipped out. While he was eager to serve his country, he was angry that Labour continues to short-change the brave members of our armed forces.
Don’t forget, it was Labour that took us into an illegal war with Iraq. It was Labour that allowed our troops to go into battle without enough helicopters or body armour. It is Labour that has let down our armed forces time and time again.
Liberal Democrats are different. We will increase the pay of our troops so that no solider, sailor or airman goes into harms way on less basic pay than a new recruit to the police or fire service.
We ask so much of our armed services, it is only right that they are equipped properly, housed well, and paid fairly.
Ian was certainly impressed with our plans. Labours lost another vote to the Lib Dems in Glasgow North.
