Thanks to a donation of £443.50 by Katy Gordon, Liberal Democrat Westminster spokesperson for Glasgow North, the North West Women’s Centre has received a major boost to their fundraising target. The Centre is funded by Glasgow City Council, but this year they only received a standstill budget. Therefore they face a cash shortfall of £10,000.
So the women at the centre are working hard to raise the money themselves. This is a tough challenge, given the low income levels of many in the area.
Katy raised the £443.50 by pushing friends, family and work colleagues to sponsor her to run the Glasgow 10K in September. She said:
“I was delighted to do something practical to support the vital work of the centre. I have got to know the women here and can see what a lifeline the centre is for local women.”
Receiving the cheque, Gail McKenna, Centre Manager, said:
“We are really grateful to Katy for getting our fundraising off to such a good start. We only have 6 months to raise the money so this is a major contribution to our target.”
