Save Our Primary Schools
Monday, February 16th | by Katy Gordon Comments
Katy and the Lib Dem team, including Robert Brown MSP (former education minister) and Cllr Mary Paris (ward councillor) are fighting hard to save:
- St Agnes Primary School, Cadder (www.savestagnesprimary.co.uk )
- Wyndford Primary School, Wyndford
- St Gregory’s Primary School, Wyndford

Katy and the team are working closely with parents from all 3 schools to prevent these schools from closing. They met parents from each school on Saturday 7th Feb, at the start of the consultation process, and have been getting the message out to local parents across the area. Katy said:
“The case for closing these 3 schools is extremely weak, even on the council’s own criteria. St Agnes has a 64% school roll, while the council has stated that 40% is the average for the 13 threatened primaries across Glasgow, while there are poor transport alternatives and an unsafe walking route to the alternative school.”

She added: “If the 2 Wyndford schools close, this would leave the area with NO primary school within the community, which again goes against council criteria of not adversely affecting disadgantaged areas. Wyndford also has the 2nd highest school roll of those threatened, at 58%. Basically, the Labour council is making a mistake with these 3 schools and should withdraw the threat to each of them.
The SNP are no help, since they have stalled the school building programme for 2 years since they came to power. Tavish Scott MSP forced them to restrart the programme during the budget negotiations in March and put real money behind it. What we need is money for schools so parents and the local communities of Wyndford and Cadder don’t suffer.”
