Stop Climate Chaos

Katy and Lib Dem colleagues took part in a discussion session on the Climate Change Bill last night in Hillhead Library. Organised by Stop Climate Change Chaos umbrella organisation (covering a wide range of environmental groups), the focus was the bill currently going through the Scottish Parliament. This could potentially be a a ground breaking piece of legislation that puts Scotland at the front of the drive to slow down / reverse global warming. Key elements of the bill were discussed and local residents encouraged to lobby their MSPs.
Speaking at the meeting, Katy said: “As a party, we strongly support SCCC’s campaign to ensure that bill sets a global standard. This is an issue that challenges all politicians to take action that matches their warm words on the environment. My worry is that the SNP government has no clear plan of how it is going to achieve the proposed 3% annual cuts in fossil fuel emissions, and some of the wording in the bill creates loopholes for avoiding difficult decisions. I hope the SNP will live up to its professed concern for the environment and accept the key demands of the campaign, particularly in reversing its decision to drop the commitment to binding annual targets of 3% reduction in fossil fuels.”
If you are concerned to take action in support of the campaign, you can:
- Lobby your MSP now about the bill
- Take part in WWF’s Earth Hour on 28th March
- Attend the Climate Change Rally at the Scottish Parliament on 22nd April
