Fighting Post Office Closures in Glasgow North
Saturday, November 3rd | by Katy Gordon Comments
Katy was dismayed to learn that as many as 4 Post Offices in Glasgow North are facing closure under the latest round of cuts announced last week. They are Kelvindale, Hyndland, Gilshochill and West End. Katy has vowed to take the fight to the government and is working with both Lib Dem local councillors Mary Paris and Kenn Elder to fight the closures. They already have a petition out and are gathering support from local residents. Katy said:
“Under this Labour Government a quarter of all Post Offices in the West of Scotland have already closed. This announcement means the axe will fall on a further 44 local Post Offices, 4 of the in Glasgow North. These local Post Offices provide a crucial service to the community, particularly for elderly residents. Labour have simply not looked hard enough for alternatives to these closures. They have stripped Government business from the Post Office at every opportunity and have to shoulder much of the blame for the current state of the Post Office network. The public consultation runs until 3rd December. We have until then to fight these changes, and I will be making the strongest possible case for protecting Post Office services in Glasgow North. I will be contacting the National Consultation Team to make the case. The more signatures I can gather to demonstrate local feeling the stronger the case.
Please sign our petition to save our local Glasgow Post Offices.
