Sharing Weddings & Samosas with the Sikh Community

Katy Gordon meets local members of the Sikh Community

Katy spent the morning with Sikh members of the Otago Street Gurdwara last
Sunday (22nd April). The visit was arranged by Abdul Khan, Lib Dem council candidate for Hillhead ward. Katy and Abdul were accompanied by Ann Laird, Lib Dem council candidate for Anderston / City, who lives locally. In a relaxed atmosphere, Katy, Abdul and Ann talked to local residents, shared their samosas and discussed the forthcoming election.

Katy commented:

The members of the gurdwara were so welcoming. I hadn’t previously known about the lovely custom of langur, and it was good to get a chance to find out more about the issues concerning the community. I hope we will get a chance to come again once the election is over. Clearly some issues such as asylum and immigration, civil liberties and equality for all cultures would be of concern to many in the Sikh community, but there is just as much interest in health, education, crime and of course car parking spaces… ! I hope the people we met will feel that the Liberal Democrats’ policies on these issues would chime with their own views.
