Katy was pleased to see Labour’s latest election literature in Glasgow Kelvin applauding Lib Dem policies introduced in the last Scottish Parliament. She was surprised, however, to see Pauline McNeill claim credit for flagship Lib Dem policies of:
- Abolition of tuition fees
- Free care of the elderly
- New concessionary travel schemes
Katy commented:
Students are well aware that it is our party they have to thank for getting rid of tuition fees. We want to go further in the next parliament and abolish the Graduate Endowment to make university affordable for all. Many elderly people have benefited from the introduction of free personal care and I have met senior citizens in Kelvin who are delighted to be able to jump on buses to anywhere in Scotland for free, thanks to the national scheme introduced by a Lib. Dem. Transport Minister.
You only have to look south of the border to realise that these policies would not have been introduced by Labour alone. However, I am glad that this means the Labour party has finally accepted that the key achievements of the last parliament have been thanks to the Scottish Liberal Democrats.
