Climate Change Starts at Home

As Ming Campbell launched the Liberal Democrats’ Climate Change Starts at Home Campaign on Monday, Katy backed this up by highlighting what the party in Scotland is proposing for our housing stock. To end fuel poverty by 2016 and create warm, dry homes for all, the Scottish Liberal Democrats would:
- Create a Healthy Green Homes Fund – to upgrade at least 40,000 homes each year from 2009
- Extend housing grants so low income families can get free installation of micro-generation technology
- Improve support to fuel poor households to help them access funding to improve their homes
- Introduce rebates for homeowners investing in energy efficiency measures
- Introduce Energy Performance Certificates as part of the information house buyers and sellers exchange
- Amend planning rules to make it easier to install micro-renewables
Katy said:
“There are far too many people living in cold, damp homes in Glasgow and across Scotland. Nearly 3000 deaths a year are linked to living in these conditions. We want to put warm, dry homes at the top of public health priorities and tackle climate change at the same time.”
