Clean Up Operation is Launched

Clean up Operation in Park Circus, Glasgow Kelvin - Katy Gordon joins other Lib Dem Candidates and Local Residents

Katy joined a crowd of local residents from Park and Woodlands on Saturday 31st March for a spring clean campaign. The team cleared litter and graffiti in and around Park Circus. In a very short time, they had enough bulging bin bags to fill a skip or two and had made a real difference to the local area. Ann Laird, Liberal Democrat council candidate for Anderston (which covers the area) also lent a hand. One of the organisers of the clean up campaign, Gordon McDougall, Lyndoch Place resident, was really pleased with the results, welcoming the additional boost of funding from the new Clean Glasgow project to support the volunteers:

“This will complement what we do every year. We hope to see its [Glasgow City Council] enforcement teams coming in to do their bit in the next few weeks. It will make a big difference to the area”

Katy added:

“As a party, the Liberal Democrats have always championed the importance of local action in making a difference. Governments can set the tone, and we have done that at Holyrood with the massive boost to environmental programmmes, recycling and raising awareness of what can be done to combat climate change.”

“We need to encourage a sense of civic pride in all residents, an understanding that while governments and local councils have responsibilities for the environment, individuals also have to take responsibility by reducing their impact on their environment. While it is shocking what some people throw over a fence rather than put in a bin, it is also heartening to see so many local people concerned enough to do something about it. Today we made a great start and Park residents are setting an example I hope other areas will follow”
